We settled down at Mayfield and had a drive around the city of Nairobi. On the drive we passed a brawl and members of it hit our van. We passed through the city centre and then went to Kibera, the biggest slum in Kenya. We were shocked by the living conditions and that was just the sight of it. When driving through it we didn't smell anything because our windows were closed because of the brawl, but we were told that the smell is almost unbearable. Lots of people tried to jump on the public transport so they could get away from where they live and go to the celebrations in town because it was New year's day.
The roads around Nairobi are full of pot holes and judder bars, which made travelling any where a struggle to go quickly. Our driver Samuel was a very good driver on these roads and got us to our destination as fast as possible. The public transport and all the vehicles just been a little bit banged up because you are always in close proximity with other vehicles, squeezing between two or more vehicles at a time.
Brawling, Kenya's biggest slum, hazardous and crowded roads - wow, what an intro to a new place! So good to know God is with us everywhere we go. Thinking of you guys every day and with you in prayer.
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil. It has taken Logan a bit of time to process it all.
