Chemususu dam

Once again, the men awoke early for our bible study, while everyone else was allowed a sleep in.
The Waze (men) walked over to Pastor Roy's house and we grabbed a ride to the church with him. We had a great time of prayer, and encouragement.
Following the study, we walked into town for chai, and then took a walk around and met people while we waited for the rest to come into town. This was followed by a short drive through the neighbourhood, with lots of local children running behind us.
After returning to Sunrise Acres, Ariana and Abbey made us a delicious lunch while the rest of us started preparing for our Sunday School service.
A while after lunch, we then drove to the Chemususu dam. What a beautiful area!
The dam was completed in 2012, and there is now a large water treatment facility being developed. The dam was originally built from tonnes and tonnes of shale quarried from the surrounding forest. The quarries can now barely be seen, as the forest has almost completely regrown.
We then drove to a nearby locals house for a fundraising activity. The fundraising was to enable a young man and his fiancee to raise money for their wedding. Mama Kimu (Judy) was the emcee, and she totally rocked. Family and friends were introduced and there was a large amount of money raised.
Chai and mandazi were provided, and then we returned home for dinner and continued church preparation.

  1. Wow, you're really having an interesting variety of experiences! Thanks for the photos - they really help us to get a bit more of a feel for the world you're in. It sounds like your vehicle gets celebrity-like status as you travel around!

Chemususu Dam looks impressive. Reminds me a little of Hunua (which may be wildly inaccurate in reality!).

And I notice there was a Barcelona football shirt in that first photo - our boys will be excited about that!

You are packing a lot in. I hope you're sleeping well :)

    1. I said the same thing about the dam when I first arrived. Observing similarities and differences between our two countries has been really interesting.
I am sleeping well, but we are doing a lot, and so relaxing is taking a back seat.

  2. After reading this story, I immediately thought of Alex Rider in Crocodile Tears destroying the Kenyan Dam. Reading the book, I was yelling "NO! do anything except destroying the dam!" I wonder if you had similar thoughts.
